Sodalite has a long history of use in Peruvian jewelry, both in the Andes and on the coast. It is frequently found in burials during archaeological excavations and continues to be used today. The stone for these beads is from Bolivia but the beads were hand-cut, drilled and polished in Peru. They have a wax finish.
This 16 in. strand includes about 160 beads cut in a rondelle shape. Because they are hand-cut they vary in size but in general they are about 3 mm in diameter and 2-3 mm thick. The holes are small, 1 mm or less in diameter.
