Andean turquoise is darker and more variegated than the more familiar southwestern American variety. It has been used as an ornamental stone in Peru for many centuries

This strand includes about 155 Andean rondelle beads, hand-cut by Peruvian artesanos. Because they are hand-cut, there are variations in the sizes of the beads and the sizes and positions of the holes. They are about 4 mm in diameter and 2-3 mm thick. The holes are small, 1 mm or less.

The beads are waxed but are untreated and otherwise unalterd.
