2 Peruvian 17 mm HAND-PAINTED CERAMIC BUTTONS Llama, U30
Click photo for enlargement.
These two ceramic buttons were hand-crafted and hand-decorated by expert Peruvian crafts people. The design shows a llama, a woman spinning on a drop spindle, a candelabra cactus, and condors, a common Peruvian folk motif. The clay was shaped and fired, then painted, glazed, and fired a second time for a true ceramic hardness.
Because they are handmade, there are slight variations in the sizes of the buttons and in the sizes and positions of the holes. They are about 5/8 in. (17 mm) in diameter, and about 1/8 in. (3 mm) thick. There are two holes, each about 2 mm in diameter.
