20 Peruvian 13 mm CERAMIC BARREL BEADS Kantuta Flowers, J68

20 Peruvian 13 mm CERAMIC BARREL BEADS Kantuta Flowers, J68

Click photo for enlargement.

These ceramic beads were hand-made and hand-painted by expert Peruvian crafts people. The clay was fired, painted and glazed, then fired a second time for a true ceramic hardness. They are decorated with kantuta flowers. The kantuta (kantu, in Quechua) was a sacred flower of the Inca and is the national flower of modern Peru.

Because they are handmade, there are slight variations in the sizes of the beads and the sizes and positions of the holes. In general they are about 13 mm tall and 10 mm in diameter through the middle, with 3 mm holes.
