These 20 high-quality ceramic beads were hand-made and hand-painted by expert Peruvian crafts people. The clay was shaped and fired, painted and glazed, then fired a second time for a true ceramic hardness. The beads are painted with special mineral-based pigments, not artificial dyes.
The painters describe themselves as artists, and with justification. The marbled design is a play of greens, blues and pinks. Because they are handmade, there are variations in the sizes of the beads and in the sizes and positions of the holes. They are round but slightly flattened off spherical, about 12 by 10 mm, with holes 3 mm in diameter.
