These ten high-quality ceramic rectangle beads were hand-made and hand-painted by expert Peruvian crafts people. The beads were shaped and fired, painted and glazed, then fired a second time for a true ceramic hardness. They were painted with special mineral-based pigments, not artificial dyes.

The painters describe themselves as artists, and with justification. The marbled design is a play of greens, blues and pinks, suggesting spring. Because they are handmade, there are slight variations in the sizes of the beads and in the sizes and positions of the holes. In general they are about 17 mm tall and 10 mm on a side, with holes 3-4 mm in diameter.
