Native Americans throughout the Amazon basin have long used the seeds and nuts of a variety of trees and plants make necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry. This 2 meter (78 in.) strand includes about 250 seeds from the Amazonian achira plant (Canna sp.), which is commonly used for making rosaries in the jungle. They were hand-drilled by Peruvian crafts people.
Achira seeds are round. Because these are natural plant seeds, there are variations in the sizes of the beads. In general, they are about 1 cm in diameter. The holes are small, about 1 mm across.
