This 38 in. strand includes about 280 Andean soapstone beads handcut in a drum shape, drilled, and polished by Peruvian crafts people. The beads are coated with a clear solution that helps to smooth and protect them and enhances their luster but they are untreated and otherwise unaltered.

Because they are hand-cut, there are variations in the sizes of the beads and the sizes and positions of the holes. In general, they are about 4 mm in diameter and 4 mm long. The holes are small, 1 mm or less in diameter.
