Sodalite has a long history of use in Peruvian jewelry, both in the Andes and on the coast. It is frequently found in burials during archaeological excavations and continues to be used today.

This 17 1/2 in. strand includes 52 beads cut in a round shape. The stone is high-quality Grade A, a deep royal blue with a minumum of clouding. They have a wax finish but are untreated and otherwise unaltered.

Because they are hand-cut, there are slight variations in the sizes of the beads and in the sizes and positions of the holes. They are roughly spherical, about 9 mm in diameter, with 1 mm holes.
