These wonderful owl beads were hand-made by talented Peruvian crafts people. They are painted with enamel paints, which make certain features stand out against the unpainted brown clay.

Because they are handmade, there are variations in the painting and the size and position of the holes. They are about 15 mm tall, 10 mm across front, 12 mm front to back, with 2 mm vertical holes.

In Peru, beads like this are often used as bolo (bola) ties. Although relatively large, they are suprisingly light, and would also serve nicely as a necklace or car mirror pendants or Christmas tree ornaments. They also stand well alone as miniature figurines.
