This 38 in. strand includes about 280 Andean soapstone beads. The beads were hand-cut in a drum shape, drilled, and polished by Peruvian crafts people. The beads are coated with a clear solution that helps to smooth and protect them but they are untreated and otherwise unaltered.

Because they are handcut, there are variations in the sizes of the beads and the sizes and positions of the holes. They are about 4 in diameter and 4 mm long, with 1 mm holes.
